Trinada, “Song of the Nightingale”
A spacious, secluded stylish house in the Algarve hills. Private swimming pool within sub tropical courtyard garden. Terraced orange grove and petite vineyard.
Trinada is a two bedroom, two bathroom traditional detached Algarvian farmhouse tucked away in the hills of the Serra de Monchique with spectacular views of the southern Portuguese coastline. This is a fabulous area for walking, relaxation and wildlife. Situated in the far South West tip of Portugal the house is 30 minutes from the wild surfing beaches of the Atlantic and equidistant from the beautiful sheltered coves of the Algarve. Faro airport is just over an hour’s drive.
Once approached via the drive and through the front gates into the totally private courtyard with swimming pool you will find two outside dining and seating areas. The first is a covered veranda complete with chairs, table and a day bed for relaxing in the shade. The other is a shaded terrace complete with dining area, grape vine overhead, barbeque and wood burning oven.
Internally the house is airy and cool with comfortable and stylish furniture, fixtures and fittings. A large Alentejo style fireplace divides the expansive sitting room from the kitchen and pantry. Here you will find a TV and DVD player with a selection of films on DVD and books and Griffin speaker with attachment for your iPod. Wifi is available throughout the house.
The kitchen and separate pantry is well equipped with tableware, pots and pans and utensils and has white marble shelving and work top and a gas hob, electric oven, dishwasher and washing machine. Spring drinking water spigot in the kitchen (Monchique water is famous for it’s purity and taste).
The dining room has a long table seating six and has an open fireplace and a vaulted ceiling of handmade terracotta bricks.
Both double bedrooms (one with king sized bed and one with two single beds) are cool at night with high ceilings and ceiling fans. Both bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms and in addition to double sinks and shower the master bathroom contains a bath and bidet. Egyptian cotton bed linen, bath and beach towels and toiletries are provided.
Trinada is in the middle of a “Special Area for Conservation”. The birdlife in particular is extremely varied. The cork oak wooded hills are interspersed with terraces growing oranges, lemons, grapefruit and vegetables. Local activities include playing golf on some of the best year round courses in the world and excellent surfing on the West Coast. Other local activities include hill walking, mountain biking, horse riding, kite surfing, paddle boarding, wind surfing, yoga, go karting and scuba diving. There is also a flying school at Alvor aerodrome. Close by is a thermal spa dating back to Roman times at the beautiful Caldas de Monchique.
The hill town of Monchique is only a 10-15 minute drive and offers a good range of shops, restaurants and cafes. Shops include an excellent butcher and Intermarche supermarket. The smaller town of Marmelete, with it’s two small mercado’s, is an 8 minute drive.
There are many restaurants in the area serving traditional Portuguese mountain food including the famous Chicken Piri Piri. The closest is the locally renowned “Tasco O Petrol” a 15-20 minute walk or a 4 minute drive from the house.
