The Strawberry Thief, Sherborne, Dorset

Nestled deep in the countryside, this luxurious cottage provides the perfect base from which to explore Dorset and Somerset. With a huge garden and fabulous interiors, it’s a home away from home. Oh and did we mention, there is a pub 14 minutes walk away?

The Strawberry Thief is a quiet rural haven, a very peaceful place where we relax and unwind. And we hope you find you can do just the same when you stay.

Living in Portsmouth, we bought the cottage as a bolthole to escape from the bustle of city life. We usually come to Corton Denham with our children; in the summer we spill out in to the garden and in the winter we enjoy long walks, Sunday lunch at the pub and then papers in front of the fire. The end-of-terrace cottage retains many of its traditional charms, and we’ve spent the last couple of years refurbishing the property and love filling it with vintage finds which we hope add to your stay.

Nestled in the beautiful Dorset countryside, our main reason for buying the cottage was the wealth of wildlife on our doorstep. If you’re patient you’ll probably be able to see pheasants, finches, thrushes, woodpeckers and robins from the living room window. You’re also quite likely to see a lot of horses trotting up and down the lane as it’s popular riding country.

As we’re at The Strawberry Thief quite regularly, we enjoy watching the seasons change. In Spring the air is alive with the sound of lambs, and you might even spot hares in the field at the back of the house. The Summer becomes all about the terrace – and evening BBQs before a spot of stargazing. And then Autumn and Winter, whilst often nippy and potentially rather muddy, mean weekends tucked up in front of the log burner (with the occasional stroll to The Queen’s Arms!).
