This charming hotel awaits you in a quiet and central area of the 1st district – only a three minutes walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Our privately run boutique hotel situated in a 19th century building offers personal service, stylish rooms with its original parquet flooring and exquisite fabrics.
In May 2013 the Kärntnerhof with its 44 rooms and suites was reopened after extensive renovation. The Gründerzeit-façade shines in fresh and light grey colours. The interior of our boutique hotel has a timeless design: a mixture of Viennese art nouveau, French flair and Italian elegance. Delicate wallpapers from Europe’s leading manufactures decorate the walls of the rooms and corridors, velvet armchairs and sofas welcome you and a collection of art objects located in our lounge remind one of the German natural scientist Alexander von Humboldt.
The parlour is the heart of the Kärntnerhof. Not only do guests have the chance to breakfast there with the possibility to choose from selected regional products, and from the early afternoon on they might also enjoy reading the international press on display while having tea or coffee, or use the free WIFI which is available everywhere in the hotel. During the warm months our splendid roof terrace allows you to relax after an eventful day in the European City of Culture- Vienna.
From the terrace you can see the baroque towers of Heiligenkreuzerhof and take in the city’s history. The hotel itself can pride itself in an uncommon history: after World War II it was known as “Madame Rosa” for a few years – a brothel which counted mostly Allied Soldiers among its customers. In memory of this we have named one of our three suites “Madame Rosa”.
Shortly after its renovation the Kärntnerhof received huge feedback in the media as Vienna’s smallest Grand Hotel.
